Vehicle overview
This real 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS coupe is finished in its original Cortez Silver color with painted stripes, a black vinyl top, and a black interior. It retains its original numbers-matching 396-cubic-inch V8, Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission, and 12-bolt Positraction rear end with 3.31 gearing. The car has had two owners, both from West Virginia, with the second owner retaining it for 29 years and completing a body-off-frame restoration in 1998. Approximately 15,000 miles were driven after the restoration. The all-metal body was restored using new GM front fenders, a full GM driver-side quarter panel, and a replacement passenger-side quarter skin. The body is straight, the panels fit square and flush, and the Cortez Silver metallic paint has an evenly applied flake, clear-coat finish, and painted stripes that are smooth to the touch. The paint was applied more than 20 years ago and shows no visible blistering, cracking, or shrinking. The door jambs are painted, the weatherstripping was replaced, the chrome and stainless trim are in excellent condition, the vinyl top presents like new, and the SS wheels are properly painted. The functional cowl-induction hood retains its working flapper. Most of the black interior is original, including the instrument panel, SS steering wheel, dashboard pad, and door panels. The front seat covers, carpeting, and headliner were replaced. The original instrument panel shows light wear but is not cracked or cut. A retro-style stereo is installed in the factory radio opening, with 6x9-inch speakers mounted in the rear. The heater controls are in very good condition, the glove-box light works, and the Hurst 4-speed shifter has the correct shift boot and retaining ring. The original 396 V8 was rebuilt and is rated at 350 horsepower. It retains the original exhaust manifolds and is equipped with reproduction chrome valve covers, the correct carburetor, correct fuel pump, and a complete functional cowl-induction system. The engine compartment also includes the correct-style radiator, fan, fan shroud, and connected windshield-washer reservoir, along with power steering and power brakes. The trunk contains solid metal finished in gray-and-white spatter paint, a Goodyear spare tire mounted on a painted SS wheel, the original jack assembly, replaced weatherstripping, and a trunk lid and jamb finished to match the exterior. During the frame-off restoration, the front suspension and steering were completely rebuilt with replaced bushings, ball joints, springs, shock absorbers, tie-rod ends, and steering components. The F41 suspension includes front and rear sway bars and boxed rear control arms. The rear suspension received replaced bushings, springs, and Delco shock absorbers. The braking system includes power-assisted front disc brakes. A correct-style dual exhaust system terminates through SS cowbell tips. The underside of the engine is finished in Chevrolet Orange and includes a rebuilt correct starter. The floors, frame, and suspension components are clean, smooth metal finished in satin black.
