Vehicle overview
This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS hardtop is finished in deep Midnight Blue Metallic with a painted white nose stripe, red pinstriping, a new black vinyl top, and a contrasting red interior. The paint has been ceramic coated twice, and the body is straight with well-fitting panels. Exterior equipment includes a metal cowl-induction hood, carbon-fiber rear spoiler, LED headlights, a Detroit Speed electric headlight-door system, new weatherstripping and window seals, a new windshield, and 18-inch American Racing wheels with diamond-cut lips wrapped in performance tires. The bumpers, marker lights, stainless trim, door handles, and taillights present as new. The interior was restored with replaced red upholstery, seat cushions, door panels, armrests, headliner, carpeting, and dash pad. It also features a new tilt steering column and steering wheel, three-point retractable seatbelts in the front and rear, custom analog electronic gauges, Vintage Air electronic slide controls, a retro-style stereo, rear 6x9-inch speakers, and a floor-mounted Hurst shifter. Power comes from a performance-built 5.7-liter LS1 V8 producing 550 horsepower. The engine was built for supercharging and includes a Texas Speed camshaft, lifters, and valve-spring kit, a D1SC intercooled ProCharger with a mild pulley, and an ATI SFI harmonic balancer. A Vintage Air heating and air-conditioning system is installed, while an aluminum radiator and electric cooling fan manage engine temperature. The accessory drive includes modern power steering, an alternator, and a serpentine-belt system. The engine compartment also contains an upgraded windshield-wiper system, an Optima battery, and a power-brake system. The trunk lid and jamb are painted, and the trunk compartment has clean metal finished in spatter paint. The front suspension was rebuilt with new components and upgraded with tubular control arms and adjustable coilover gas shocks. The rear suspension includes CalTracs traction bars, KYB gas shocks, and performance mono-split leaf springs. The exhaust system uses mandrel-bent dual pipes with a crossover and Flowmaster mufflers. The fuel system and fuel lines were replaced with components compatible with electronic fuel injection. Drilled and slotted disc brakes are fitted at all four wheels, and the emergency brake is connected. The bottom of the engine is equipped with a custom Holley oil pan and a high-torque starter. A T56 6-speed manual transmission with a hydraulic clutch sends power to a 12-bolt rear end. The floors are solid and painted gloss black. Completed service work included aligning the air-conditioning compressor, relocating the intercooler, fabricating a hood release, reprogramming the air-conditioning controller, rewiring the turn signals, repairing the headlight connection, lubricating and adjusting the headlight doors, and replacing the alternator wire.
